Adobe Ideas iOS vector drawing
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/adobe-ideas-vector-drawing/id364617858?mt=8
I have been playing around with some vector drawing tools for iOS. Adobe ideas seems to be my current favorite. However, Paper is another app that I have also found both fun and expressive. I like to have these vector drawings because the are scalable to any size and could be easily worked into a process book.

Solid Works Tutorials

Lynda is a great paid service for learning a new software. I have started on the Solid Works tutorial and I feel it is helping me get a better hold on the basics. I figured since we recently had our workshop some people might want to continue learning.

Never forget why we are designers

I am glad to see that there are people out there who are taking the future of our planet seriously. We design to make things better!

Drawing in the future
http://www.wired.com/design/2013/09/you-can-buy-adobes-new-digital-pen-next-year/
Not only is this a cool product that is taking drawing and design into the future, but how the idea came to be is just as cool. We always need to take time away from the grind and just have fun letting our creativity run wild.

Nike's Human printing press
This was too cool not to put it up. Real activities were integrated into a massive printing mechanism to create individualized printed posters. a Boxer stamped the sheet by punching a bag, runners triggered a powder mechanism, a basketball hoop letterpress is activated by slam dunking...WHOA.
Redefining Our user Experience: Where is design going next?
At least check out the self-folding 4-D printed stuff. It's eery.

Design Process! Google should have Googled it earlier...
Amazing that it took as big a company as Google to understand the significance of design to the user experience...notice the flux of who is in charge from engineers to the designers instead...Go team.

Blurring the lines between Organic and Electric: Bio-Tech
The idea that a specific human being is unique in several of their characteristics, i.e. fingerprints and heartbeats, is taking hold not just for identification in the medical world, but possibly as a password tool in apps and phones and the up and coming smart watches. Passwords are broken with algorithms; how well would biological qualities defy an algorithmic pattern compared to our standard numbers and letters?

Innovation vs. Excess
Where do we draw the line? Just because something CAN be electronic, does it really need to be? Using electricity unnecessarily where analog does just as well....seems like a cool idea, but inefficient use of electricity where it "sci fi" doesn't necessarily have to enter our lives. This is where the lines of practicality and innovation need to find an appropriate intersection.

Patagonia Innovation
The design on this jacket is a perfect example of innovation! Hopefully I will be able to end up doing the same thing these guys are doing here. Watch the video here:

Simple Design (Example)
The design of this usb drive is perfectly functional while still offering a beautiful and compelling form. There are no extra layers or out casing. The metal frame that shapes the usb connection is just extended back as the body of the drive. There are no moving parts which eliminates the annoyance of you drive breaking after repeated use. The best part is this is the least expensive drive at Office Depot! $6 for an 8GB model.
Designed Together

I love this video because it shows how the physical form of the iPhone 5C lent to ios 7's design and vise versa. One of my first design classes taught me the design strategy of designing with and for the inherent qualities of an artifact and this is a perfect example of that.
I'll still be getting the 5S though.

Phonebloks Debunked
Here is a pretty good explanation why the Phonbloks concept is not terribly viable. (I'm glad because I think it would have made a really ugly phone.) I think it's a good example of what happens when a designer thinks they have a great idea but doesn't really know much about how a specific technology works.
Another phone post.
Its a minimalist accessory this time. A slim phone case wallet.

Different Kinds of Design and How They Overlap
I thought this was a cool diagram I found around the web, which I then traced back this website called Make Tools, that has some interesting papers and information about Human Centered Design.

I love the website. It is sometimes just entertaining to scroll through all the icons and see how creative people are.

Bullet Journal - A Designer's new method of organization
This is a pretty efficient way of task notetaking and organization. I wonder how well it can be adapted to brainstorming ideas, etc, or something that isn't quite as linear as a "to do" list. The "forwarding" of events is a great mental check, though, as it forces you to review and rewrite your incomplete tasks. I might start trying this?
[type]Facelift for Yahoo and Google search engines
Have you noticed? Google went flat with their most recent logo redesign, but here is what yahoo! did with theirs, and a little insight into their design process:

I find it interesting that the Apple iPhone design is so successful other companies are recreating its form to sell their product.

Innovation or Incineration?
New building example of innovation leading to unforeseen consequences; in this case, melting cars. Oops. Article contains several examples of the "perfect storm" designs whose characteristics led to some strange, and sometimes disastrous consequences. This definitely re-emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach to innovation in all projects, but especially on the huge scale with which architects are working.

Truly green garden implementation in city planning could help the "concrete jungle" label lose its accuracy with rooftop gardens finding a new home on city buses (and beyond) through the Phyto Kinetic project.
