Life On The Outside....

Life On The Outside....

YOU CAN SEE HOW THIS COMPANY FOCUSES ON WHAT THE CUSTOMER NEEDS AND WANTS ARE. FUNCTION IS AT THEIR FOCUS BUT THERE STYLE SHINES THROUGH.

Google Maps Bird House

I love how the creator of this took something digital and brought it back to the physical world. So often it's the other way around and this is a simple, fresh way to turn that around.

WireShade

This lamp mounts on the side of a wall or on the ceiling to have a distinctive look of being part of the wall. Instead of trying to cover or disguise a light, the WireShade adds character to the room.

Maritime S Chair

This chair has very clean lines and looks inviting and comfortable. The round corners and supporting ribs make the Maritime name very fitting.

Perfume Bottles

I've always really liked how perfume bottles say so much about the company they are from, and what kind of person they are designed for. You can tell just by looking at them if a perfume is flowery or woodsy. However, more and more often, companies are using more original bottles, and I love it! Here are some of my recent favorites.

Some really cool graphic design trends:

One of my favorites that I have noticed popping up is "handwritten type," which I've noticed reacts really nicely with images. Several bloggers I follow have been using these to write on top of pictures, which gives it a more crafty feel.

I was looking at this when my 10-year old son said "who what is that is it art?"  I said "it is a tub and art!" and we talked about the design concepts for about 15 minutes.  Pretty and cool! 1/22/13

Design approach.

Ever since I listened to the episode of Radiolab entitled "Words" I have approached design in a different way. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone who hasn't already listened to it but I try to apply the same principles. The topic is not even design oriented but nevertheless I think it still applies.

Words Radiolab episode. Please listen if you have an hour.
