Spaghetti portion control

Now a days everyone is very conscious about portion control (I mean, we even have a group doing a nudge on the issue). I think this is a great product to simplify a process that used to be very inconsistent.

Leave no space unused..

This designer went to extremes when it comes to space utilization\

Bike storage

This is awesome because recently I've been having problems with exactly this situation. This seems to be a good, simple solution.

Not the first time that I've seen an alarm do this, but it is the most elegant execution.

Cheap 3D Printer for Metal

A Colorado based company called Mini Metal Maker is developing a 3d printer for metal products that could retail for less than $1,000. They are on IndieGogo collecting funds now for the startup.

The Internet of Things

This self proclaimed "idiotic product", that counts how many eggs you have in your fridge, is a great representation of what we can do with web/app connected products. What is something you would like to be able to track from your phone?

Squatting for the Subway

I think this is such a cool concept that was put together! I think it sort of goes along with this nudge product and getting people to do something that they normally don't do - Even though it's not really a subconscious decision.

It's all in Russian, but you don't really need to read anything to enjoy it.

Also, something like this would be super cool to get people to do it for the vending machine/eating habits nudge project!

Crowd Sourcing

Here is an interesting article about crowd sourcing being used for and airport redesign.

I wonder how else it could be used?????

What a concept...car!

It might only be a concept, but what a cool car!

I'm not promoting fast food consumption...

but it would be better if it looked like this

I came across this wine cellar while serving the inter webs. I think it is a clever combination of two relatively unrelated design. The design on the spiral staircase served as a basis for this wine cellar. This is something I attempt to do in my ideations. Combining two unlike concepts can often bread something new and interesting.

I want this desk

I like the idea of having a specific place for everything, including the cable holder. Gives me some ideas for our crash cart

You all know I am a huge Apple fan and this image is a favorite of mine. It shows the progression of the iMac over the 15 years or so. Each is a beautiful design in its own right.

Rebel Design

So I was watching some TedTalks on Netflix a few nights ago and came across two episodes that tie in with this class really well. Primarily the subject of these two lectures was on data visualization, but instead of simple info graphics these guys were representing information with videos, time lapses, and other stunning forms. You should really check these out, I found them to be quite inspiring.

The first lecture was by Aaron Koblin and the other by David McCandless.
If you try to find them just search 'Rebel Design' and they are the 2nd and 4th episode in the series

This is pretty sweet. The packmule; the commuter bike redesigned. Some simple tweeks to a bike design to make it more stable for commuting with your needs and things. That being said, I won't be changing out my commuter/mtb for it anytime soon.

Not going to lie... I wish we learned to do more stuff like this in the design program. Granted, I'm not part of it yet, but seeing students at another school actually create stuff like this is inspiring!

Adding a little Modern Design flair to Libraries

Jim was saying in class the other day that most buildings that have a well-established function(i.e. Library, recreation center, school, etc) have a really similar design language across their specific category (libraries look like libraries, etc) and that when someone goes really out of the box in that subset of architecture, it gets noticed. While doing some research for our Guerrilla Nudge project I ran across these modern library designs!

Check it out!

Interactive Website Celebrating 30 Years of Mario

Way cool if you are a Mario fan! This is very creative interface design.

Illustrator Plugin

http://www.specctr.com

Specctr is a illustrator plugin that is used to easily dimension and annotate an interface design. Often when you do interface design you don't actually generate the code for the interface. With Specctr and its easy annotations you can send an illustrator rendering of an interface design with specific details for them to implement. I have done interface design and the programs almost always botch the design despite their good intentions. Without design training it is hard for them to correctly interpret the design correctly. Specctr just gives some added help.
