Dolby Users

Yelp Users!

2 Personas

I found these examples online and thought they were helpful because they are done with the exact same style so they can be compared. I also found the flow of these very conducive to understanding and reading through the entire document.

User Persona Guide

Here is a great website that goes into detailed steps about making a user persona! It's super helpful and has several examples (though not the best looking) of good user personas.

Graphically displayed persona

I'm really enjoying this different take on a persona example. By simply using simple pictures and icons it is easy to tell many things about these two people: their age, gender, ethnicity, and interests. Although this is a simple way to convey the idea that these two women are sharing the same thought, it is done very quickly and effectively.

Up Close and Persona

Found this neato website that helped me define some questions that needed to be answered about my persona. Things about their job and concerns they might have, new ideas I had not considered.

http://www.upcloseandpersona.com/samples.html
Okay, so this one is really cool aesthetically, as it also finds a way to include a lot of information very clearly. Bravo.

I'm really enjoying the different facets of this persona. I was surprised to see "Frustrations" included as a subheader, simply because I had not considered that for my own infographic.
I also have been noticing a lot of "goals" headers in these, which, although I implied, I did not actually clearly include. This also makes me second guess myself, and makes me feel nervous, as I am aware of the inevitable critique from Jim about the blatant absence of a goals section.

user persona 2

This is a pretty straightforward yet in depth info-graphic.  I like that it uses gray-scale and one shade of green as a color pallet so it is simple.  It is overall pretty simple and works reasonably well.

Dan Jensen infographic 1

This info-graphic does a great job of getting into the finer points of who Dan is.  It is visual with lots of colors, graphics, and graphs to show as well as tell the whole story without as much text heavy content.

Layout Tips

I found a quick list of some basic ideas and lists for designing info-graphics. It has some examples of basic templates almost that might give somewhere to start and expand off of or get those creative juices flowing.  Check it out!

Persona 2

"The Average Day" portion is really helpful to understand what kind of person Dan is - especially with how much tech he's using and how proficient he is with it.

Persona 1

Meet Mike. This is an interesting Persona Graphic - I think - because they include some really interesting data and ideas. I personally like the "ignores ads, seeks authenticity" and "requires immediacy" parts. That seems very real life to me.

User Persona II: Olivia

A User Persona depicting a typical candidate for graduate school and how she is making her decisions to apply and go to grad school. If only undergrads had some too...

User Persona I: ANNA

Though this looks text heavy, the text description really nailed it in terms of giving us a better idea of who Anna is in terms of her car.  For example, she is suspicious of car mechanics taking advantage of her. That is hard to communicate with icons! I now see the value to a paragraph description for a persona.

Some Good Persona Examples

Example #1
This persona does a good job of identifying how the user's life relates to the product.

Example #2
This persona is highly grokkable due to it's effective use of imagery and hierarchy.

Persona Example 2

Examples

This is a cool series, although they are limited in scope because they are for an advertisement I still think they are a cool conception of a user profile. Check the link to look at the series.

Persona Example 1

Here is an example of how a user persona can be used within a larger system map as to best determine how a user would most commonly and possibly interact with the system as a whole.
It is from the redesign website for the New York Presbyterian Hospital System.

Persona Examples

http://www.allisonrowley.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Screen-Shot-2015-02-14-at-3.34.12-PM1.png

This first example is a template for a persona profile, but still has some great information included and a pretty decent setup.

This example is pretty text heavy, but hits a ton of essential points. It was really difficult for me to include all of the necessary information in a grokable, graphic format. If this could be achieved in this example it would be super effective.

How to Validate a Research Instrument

Even though this is a pretty lame website with no credibility, I really liked the 4 easy steps to validate a tool for research.

Research Validation

This was a article that I came across that covers different steps in research from tools to validation and everything in between. I especially liked the part about validation.

A Process for Empathetic Product Design

We've all heard of Jon Kolko by now and his amazing work in design research. This article breaks down his process in "empathetic" product design. Really worth reading!

"Our goal is to form a master/apprentice relationship: we enter these research activities as a humble apprentice, expecting to learn from a master." Jon Kolko

NSF supports research on product design, innovation and learning

This article talks about the National Science Foundation (NSF) and its interest in researching how building existing products helps foster more creativity and innovation. Obviously, this is about a research project but it also presents an interesting point: deeply studying the design of existing products can be immensely instructive and a vital step in the design research process.

"Holding a product and physically being able to see how it is constructed is beneficial to many students during the learning [RESEARCH] process.”

The importance of sharing your research

Here is an article about the importance of sharing what you are working on and the research you have done. It used Etsy as a case study.

Infographic Data

This site compiles several reputable sources to gather information and statistics from. It includes sources such as the WHO, UNICEF, and UN data. Much of it is separated into data based on the country it pertains to, which is super helpful.

Infographic Research

This was a great website to take a look at and get inspiration for our upcoming infographic assignment. I always have such a hard time creating something that effectively translates my information, and I find it helpful to look at a ton of examples.

Simple Infographic Ideas

I have been looking for inspiration for ways to simply and effectively deliver my research info in an infographic. I came across this info graph that is simple, yet can convey a lot of information. The article is also great, going in-depth about the steps in a creative process.
