Innovation vs. Excess

Where do we draw the line? Just because something CAN be electronic, does it really need to be? Using electricity unnecessarily where analog does just as well....seems like a cool idea, but inefficient use of electricity where it "sci fi" doesn't necessarily have to enter our lives. This is where the lines of practicality and innovation need to find an appropriate intersection.
